Sergeant Yonatan Dean Haim, was killed in battle in south Gaza in December.
Sergeant Yonatan Dean Haim, 25, of Ramat Gan, an MDA volunteer and a fighter in the Combat Engineering Corps’ 603rd Battalion, was killed in battle in south Gaza in December.
Born Jonathan Dean Jr. in Hilton, New York, he converted to Judaism and in 2020 decided to move to Israel. Known to many as a charming, sociable, and well-liked person, he was also a committed blood donor.
According to the ‘Times of Israel,’ he studied at Tel Aviv University and received a master’s degree in disaster management. His final paper focused on the deaf community during the COVID-19 pandemic and the communication challenges posed when masks were widely used.
Writing on Facebook, his mother Grace Dean said: “Rest in Peace Jonathan. You could not have been loved more.”
According to several who knew him well, he used to say: “Never stop loving. We do not fight because we hate, but because we have such a love in our heart for life.”
At the request of his family, he was buried in the United States. May his heroism be remembered, and his memory blessed.
