Heroes of October 7 – Shiran Elbaz

Magen David Adom Paramedic Shiran Elbaz is the head of the Ma’alot – Beit Jann area. He lives in Shlomi and his family was evacuated to Elyakim. He tells about the reinforcement of the MDA teams due to the war and about the challenges facing continuous rocket shootings.

“Even though the war up north hasn’t officially began, we are in a war situation and hear sirens, rocket strikes, explosions and interceptions every day here. We don’t wait for the last moment and already over the past few weeks we have been getting prepared for the full manning of ambulances, we received reserve soldiers from the MDA unit, made sure they had ambulances, places to sleep, food, and all their needs.

“We work in cooperation with external relations representatives of the regional councils, with the IDF, the fire department, the police and all the possible teams we can meet in order to respond better during war. The bottom line is that this cooperation will save lives. That’s what I believe.”

Shiran was exposed to some difficult scenes which left him with strong impressions: “We went out as MDA teams to many abnormal events, including the one in Shomera when an anti-tank missile hit an IDF vehicle. We understand that this is the most important of tasks and we are ready for it. This is the national task of keeping our home safe. We work on the home front and in the front lines and are ready for any event. This is a very tense routine and we are praying for better days and for safety.”
